POLICIES

Expectations

Commitment and Preparation
Dedication to the PLP is largely demonstrated through regular attendance at weekly lessons as well as consistent, individual musical preparation and practice.

Code of Conduct
It is essential for PLP students to respect the rights and property of others. We count on all students to use common sense in avoiding situations and behavior that would put themselves or anyone else at risk, cause problems for other students, venues, and instructor, or adversely affect the safety, performance, and enjoyment of all. The QCSO strictly enforces a zero tolerance policy with regards to the use of drugs and alcohol, smoking, other illegal activities, and any form of harassment towards students and staff both from PLP students and their families. The QCSO reserves the right to immediately dismiss any member or family who violates the Code of Conduct.

Verbal, Physical, and Sexual Harassment
The QCSO does not tolerate any form of bullying. See a QCSO staff member immediately if you are experiencing verbal or physical harassment of any kind. QCSO Staff will immediately interfere and assess the situation.

Probation and Dismissal
Any member’s failure to meet behavioral standards, attend weekly lessons, or sustain an adequate level of musical preparation may result in probation, determined at the discretion of the instructor. After a period of probation, a consultation between the instructor, student, staff member, and parent/guardian will be arranged to discuss whether the member will be allowed to continue taking lessons.

Lesson Attendance Policies
  • Practicing in between lessons is of the utmost importance. Follow your instructor’s guidance on the frequency and length of practice sessions.
  • It is the responsibility of the student/parent to procure all required materials for private lesson instruction in a timely manner.
  • If an instructor must miss a lesson, and no substitute is available, the student will not be billed for that week’s lesson.
  • Students must give at least 24-hours notice when canceling a lesson. Failure to do so will result in the student being billed for that lesson. Exceptions in case of emergency will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
  • Students should arrive on time with all the necessary materials for their lesson. Failure to do so may result in lesson cancellation without a refund.
  • Students must treat lesson spaces with respect. Any behavior that puts the QCSO PLP’s community relationships at risk may result in removal from the program.
  • While learning something new may result in frustration, students should keep a positive attitude throughout their lesson to the best of their ability.
  • Disengaged behavior (i.e. routine unpreparedness, negative attitude, missing lessons) may result in removal from your assigned studio.

Reporting an Absence
If a member will miss a weekly lesson they should complete the online Lesson Absence Form at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled lesson time.

Excessive Absences
If a student misses more than 3 lessons in a row (excused or unexcused) it may result in the student losing their time slot.

Inclement Weather Procedure
In the event that a lesson is cancelled for inclement weather, members will be notified by their instructor by noon the day of the event.

Instrument/Injury Liability

All PLP students and families are responsible for their instruments and all personal belongings brought to lessons. Lost, stolen, or damaged instruments, instrument accessories, and all other personal items are not the responsibility of the QCSO. We strongly encourage all members to have their instruments insured. Should any damage occur to your instrument or any personal items go missing while you are participating in a PLP lesson, please notify a staff member immediately.

Student Liability
QCSO is not responsible for any injury that may occur while at a lesson or PLP event. All lesson venues that are used by the QCSO are not owned or operated by the QCSO, and therefore the QCSO cannot exercise responsibility for a student after they have left the boundaries of the lesson space. This includes hallways, other floors of the buildings, and areas outside the respective performance spaces. Should you become injured while you are participating in a PLP lesson, please notify a staff member immediately.

Lesson Cost
  • Lesson rates are set on a studio-by-studio basis. Please see the instructor list below for applicable lesson rates.
  • Students will register with a $25 registration fee which will be applied as a credit to the first billing cycle.
  • Students may discontinue lessons at any time; however, they are not guaranteed acceptance in the same studio if they return.
  • Students will be invoiced twice monthly on the 15th and the last day of the month for the periods as follows:
    • Invoice on the 15th – 26th of the previous month through the 10th of the current month
    • Invoice on the last day of the month – 11th of the month through the 25th of the current month
  • Invoice payments are to be paid directly to the QCSO Business Office within 10 days of the invoice date by:
    • Check (mail to 327 Brady Street, Davenport, IA 52801
    • Phone (call the business office at 563.424.7733)
    • Online (instructions sent with each invoice)
  • Overdue payments may result in a delay in future lessons.
Financial Aid

The QCSO Private Lesson Program is committed to preventing financial circumstances from becoming a barrier for any young musician’s participation in private study. Financial aid will be considered for any young musician who is accepted and submits the online financial aid application. Preference will be given to students who take weekly lessons (as opposed to every other week).

Musicians with a demonstrated need for financial assistance may be eligible for a partial or full financial aid award on a case-by-case basis. Families can expect strict confidentiality regarding their application and award results. The QCSO Staff is responsible for determining the number and amounts of awards provided. Every effort will be made to meet the needs of members and their families, however, we cannot guarantee that each member who applies will receive an award.

To be eligible for financial aid, a student must be in good standing and register for an entire lesson cycle (weekly lessons).

  • Students are eligible for awards in all programs with one application.
  • Please fill out one form for each student in your family.
