Masterworks II:  River Romance

November 5, 2016 at 8:00 PM
Adler Theatre, Davenport
November 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM
Centennial Hall, Rock Island

The gorgeous and peaceful nostalgia of American composer Tobias Picker’s Old and Lost Rivers and the most famous and popular of all river pieces, Smetana’s colorful, tuneful, and poetic Moldau continue our journey through the world’s waterways. Rounding out the first half is the best of Mendelssohn’s magical and harmonic Incidental Music to Midsummer Night’s Dream including the famous Wedding March. The highlight of the program will be the heroic Quad Cities return of one of America’s greatest pianists, Garrick Ohlsson, in Brahms’ Piano Concerto #2, arguably the most challenging piano concerto ever written.
