Volunteer Opportunity Descriptions

Feed the Orchestra – Friday nights before each concert, VfS serves a catered hot meal for orchestra members during their rehearsal break. VfS members provide baked goods for dessert (cookies, bars, etc). Setup occurs on Friday afternoon in the Adler Theatre Lobby (tablecloths, coffee, etc.). We need volunteers to bake, to help setup on Friday afternoon, and also to serve in the early evening before each series concert.

Fundraising /Planning Committee – This committee will meet a few times per year and discuss potential fundraising ideas for VfS.

Meet and Greet at Concerts – VfS Members are needed to welcome concertgoers and help answer questions, and then thank them for coming after the concert.

Membership Committee – This committee will work on retention of current volunteers and recruitment of new volunteers. Activities include planning fun events for current and potential VfS volunteers.  It’s a great way to say thank you and build lifelong relationships. This is for those individuals who love planning parties and events.

QCSO Office Assistance  – The Symphony office appreciates help with envelope stuffing or other assistance as needed. No specific time commitment is required, just as needed.

Riverfront Pops Concert – This concert is an outdoor concert on the riverfront in the late summer. Help is needed for setup on Friday and on Saturday for various shifts for ticket taking, handing out programs, helping with handicapped parking, teardown after the concert, etc.

Symphony Day – This is a one-day event where more than 6,000 4th & 5th graders attend three free concerts performed by the Quad City Symphony Orchestra at the Adler Theatre. Time involvement would be working one of the shifts or providing food for the orchestra members.

Symphony Shoppe – Volunteer to sell VfS merchandise at concerts and events. Promote the Volunteers!

Scratch Cupcakes Fundraiser – VfS has partnered with Scratch Cupcakery to raise funds for QCSO’s education programs. All VfS members and youth ensemble members can participate to raise funds. Sales take place in October and the delivery date is in mid-November.

Trivia Night – Volunteers on this committee will select the date and location, and will be responsible for all planning (coordinating marketing, registrations, silent auction items, etc.) for this fundraising event.

Youth Ensembles Assistance – Volunteers are needed to help with auditions, hand out programs, organize music, etc. The ensembles include: Youth Symphony Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and Prelude Strings.

VfS members receive a complimentary concert ticket when volunteering and a 10% discount on select concerts! Click here for more information.

Strategy In Action

Our objectives were lofty. We would bring music to the young people of our area, assist our Youth Orchestra, lend support to the Symphony Association, and raise funds for projects to support music education.

Who would have imagined the six of us would represent 45 years of carrying out these objectives?  And the bonus for us was forming long lasting friendships.

Join us in Volunteers for Symphony so you too can make a meaningful contribution and lasting friendships.
