Trip to Dvořák‘s Spillville
Join us on a unique adventure with Music Director Mark Russell Smith as he leads a day trip for 8 guests (van courtesy of AltStates Travel) to Spillville, Iowa, where Antonín Dvořák spent the summer of 1893 vacationing with his family. Dvořák’s time in Iowa wasn’t all rest and relaxation – he composed one of his most famous works, String Quartet no. 12 “The American Quartet”, during his sojourn in the small settlement of Czech immigrants. Maestro Smith will provide background and color on Dvořák as we visit the composer’s summer residence, the beautiful church where he played the organ daily, and few more surprises (baseball and clocks!!!) along the way on our spring excursion to scenic northeast Iowa!
